Physics

Physics can be defined as the mathematical analysis of nature. That is, physicists observe nature and try to represent what they observe with a mathematical formula. The applicability of physics to computers is analysis. Richard can analyze computer configurations, applications and algorithms in order to predict system performance. Physics is also the basis of other sciences and engineering disciplines, e.g., chemistry, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. Using a foundation in physics, Richard can understand and help build computer systems utilizing other areas of technology.


Toastmasters

Toastmasters International is the world's largest non-profit organization dedicated to helping its members improve their communication skills and their leadership skills. It has been said that:

"Successful people are good communicators, very successful people are good leaders and, to be a good leader, one must first be a good communicator."

Toastmasters teaches both through exercises and evaluations of public speaking. Richard has been a continuously active member of Toastmasters since 1978 and achieved in 1983 their Distinguished Toastmaster Award, Toastmasters' highest level of recognition, the most challenging requirement of which is to start a new Toastmasters club. To date, he has been instrumental in starting five new clubs. Richard has been a teacher or trainer for a significant portion of his career.


Leadership

Richard is an articulate leader who builds teamwork with his peers and rapport with his customers through listening, asking and critical thinking. He can be given the directive to "make it happen" and he determines and pursues the necessary steps to achieve the desired results efficiently and effectively. He also founded his own business in which he made cold calls, hired others and wrote high-tech software. He often recognizes opportunities for improvement and does something about them on his own initiative.
